3L Laurie Rogers argued before the Wyoming Supreme Court today in Cheyenne, Wyo As a student in the Prosecution Assistance Program at the College of Law, Rogers argued on behalf of the State in conjunction with the Attorney General’s Office. Rogers made an argument regarding the issue of whether the court did or did not abuse its discretion in the exclusion of evidence regarding the victim in the criminal case of KYLE JORDAN LAWRENCE v. THE STATE OF WYOMING.

Rogers is no stranger to the courtroom, earning several accolades throughout her career at the College of Law. In additional to being named the Brimmer Scholar for 2014, Rogers served as co-Counsel with former Wyoming Governor Michael Sullivan at the First Annual Spence Law Firm Historical Trial, and she was a member of the student team that earned second place at the National Energy & Sustainability Moot Court Competition.

Her trial advocacy skills are a result of hard-work, dedication and the determination to succeed. Professor Steve Easton, a mentor to Rogers comments, “Laurie is bright, hard-working and talented. She has done a great job of taking advantage of all of the opportunities available at the College of Law for learning how to be effective in the courtroom.”

Arguing before the Wyoming Supreme Court in her final days of law school has been the grand finale to an impressive three years. Prosecution Clinic Director and Professor of Law, Darrell Jackson was extremely proud of her preparation and abilities. “While nervous, as any law student should be presenting before the Wyoming Supreme Court for their first time, Laurie came across as a seasoned litigator fielding questions from all of the justices,” he says. “She was a great representative for the University of Wyoming College of Law.”
