If you love language, reading, or writing and desire to share those interests with
others, University of Wyoming’s Secondary English Education Bachelor of Arts degree
will be a perfect fit! As a middle or high school English Language Arts teacher, you
help children get excited about using language as a source of knowledge and personal
enjoyment.
As a UW student, you will learn from experienced faculty members as you perfect your
literary analysis, writing skills, and build literacy awareness. You will gain broad
knowledge of pedagogy, assessment, and special education. Students will also take
courses in linguistics, literature, and a foreign language. Teaching experiences will
help you gain the skills and confidence you will need to prepare for your future classrooms.
Learn from experienced faculty members and gain a concurrent major in English to perfect
your content knowledge, literary analysis, and writing skills while honing your instructional
expertise from English education faculty.
Our English education program is Nationally Recognized by the National Council of
Teachers of English (NCTE) and the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preperation (AAQEP). Graduates will leave the program with the ability to teach secondary students how
to comprehend, analyze, understand, interpret, evaluate, and appreciate all types
of texts. You will improve students’ abilities to communicate their thoughts through
writing and discussion in creative and reflective ways.
Enjoy all the benefits of earning a bachelors in secondary education at UW while you complete the English education program on UW’s main campus in Laramie.
Students who complete the program will earn a B.A. in Secondary English Education
with a concurrent major in English. You can also take electives to gain additional endorsements, which expand your marketability. Upon graduation, you will be eligible to apply
for your Wyoming teaching license to teach grades 6-12.
