Student Success and Graduation

As part of Student Affairs, our programs guide students as they transition to college, assisting them in clarifying academic goals and exploring majors.  From new freshmen course registration to first-year programs, academic advising, and other resources, we are a student's partner in academic success.  The Office of Student Success and Graduation also coordinates several campus-wide efforts to encourage high impact learning opportunities.  These efforts include supporting and promoting student goals toward degree completion and developing proactive retention interventions that foster student success.

Whether you are a freshman or senior, a current student, or a prospective one, a parent or member of the faculty, this website has been designed to serve as a resource for anything a student would need to succeed at the University of Wyoming.

What We Do

The Office of Student Success and Graduation helps students to meet three goals:

  1. Transition smoothly to college,

  2. Remain enrolled, and progress in a program of study

  3. Graduate in a timely manner

How We Do It

We do this by collaborating with and supporting academic departments and university offices to provide programs and services that support students’ academic growth and personal development.

Cowboy Coaching

The “Cowboy Coaching” program pairs upperclassmen with incoming freshmen to provide mentorship, friendship and a peer-to-peer resource of which students can feel comfortable taking advantage. The Cowboy Coaches, who are experienced at UW and committed to your success, are ready to help with a wide range of topics such as:

  • Advice on registration
  • Study tips and tricks
  • Proofreading a cover letter or a resume
  • A weekly check-in to see how you're doing
  • Ideas about things to get involved with on campus
  • Advice on working while going to school

Our Framework for Student Success

The Office of Student Success and Graduation was created to maximize university support services by providing students with intentional support and programming that is personalized to their academic needs. The students served represent broad levels of diversity in terms of backgrounds, cultures, interests and academic performance.

This program focuses on the academic development of students as well as the development of students' social skills and habits. All students have access to a support system that includes academic advising, intensive counseling, success coaching, leadership development, mentoring, tutoring, and developmental workshops. Our staff serves as guides and advocates as students matriculate; assisting and promoting their pursuit, and successful completion, of higher education. This program will empower, retain, and graduate students, through academic and financial support. Through these experiences coupled with comprehensive academic development, our students will have excelled on campus and in a host of professional fields at both the local and national levels.
