The University of Wyoming's Enterprise for Elevating Educational Excellence (UW-E4)
was an innovative model designed to prepare top-tier educators. It emphasized character
development, grit, and civic engagement for P-12 learners and utilizes modular learning
experiences that progress through mastery. The model leveraged technology to enhance
clinical preparation and guided practice, and deferred specialization until after
comprehensive fieldwork across various grade levels and subjects. Key features included
extensive fieldwork, a full-year residency with stipends for both fellows and mentors,
and a structured induction and mentoring program for novice educators. Each phase
of the UW-E4 model included evaluations to ensure fellows were committed and possessed
the necessary skills and knowledge. Selective criteria were also applied to the Wyoming
teachers chosen to mentor fellows.
The E-4 model was comprised of 4 phases to foster teacher development:
1. Exploration
2. Experiential Learning
3. Embedded Practice
4. Entry into the Profession
All current TEI initiatives continue to address these four phases of a pre-service and in-service teacher's education and career.
