Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company Teaching Artists

Catherine Cabeen, MFA, is the Artistic Director of Catherine Cabeen and Company (CCC) and a freelance dance artist. Via CCC Cabeen is currently directing and choreographing Into the Void, an evening length commission from On the Boards that will premier in April 2011. Cabeen has received choreographic commissions from On the Boards, Spectrum Dance Theater, the American College Dance Festival NW, Moving People Dance Theater and Pig Iron Theater Company among others. Cabeen performs in her own work and with Richard Move. She is a former member of the Bill T Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company (1998-2005) and was Jones’ Assistant Choreographer on the original production of Spring Awakening at the Atlantic Theater. She is also a former member of the Martha Graham Dance Company and Pearl Lang Dance Theater and has performed as a guest artist with Donald Byrd’s Spectrum Dance Theater. Nicole Smith is currently an apprentice with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and Stephen Petronio Company and tours with Doug Elkins & Friends in their Fraulein Maria. She has performed in the works of Robert Battle, Alwin Nikolais, Alexandra Beller, Maxine Steinman and Nancy Lushington. Ms. Smith graduated Summa Cum Laude from Montclair State University, where she received several departmental awards for academic excellence and choreography. Her choreography has been presented at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Dance New Amsterdam, Two River Theater, Kasser Theater, Bryant Park, The Rover NYC, Merce Cunningham Studios, the Outlet Dance Project, White Wave Dance Festivals and American College Dance Festivals. Ms. Smith has served as a faculty choreographer for the Montclair State University Repertory Company and has acted as the rehearsal director for the Company’s reconstructions of choreography by Shapiro & Smith, Susan Marshall & Company and David Parsons.

Bill T. Jones is an award-winning, multi-talented artist, choreographer, dancer, theater director, and writer. Jones has received numerous awards, ranging from a 1994 MacArthur "Genius" Award to Tony Awards for his choreography on Broadway. He was inducted into the American Academy of Arts & Sciences in 2009 and named "An Irreplaceable Dance Treasure" by the Dance Heritage Coalition in 2000.
