Students pursuing a minor in marketing communication must take at least 15 credit hours exclusive to the minor, meaning they cannot also be counted toward the student’s major.

Please note that this minor is only available to students pursuing degrees in the College of Business or in the Department of Communication and Journalism.

Interdisciplinary Learning

Find your collegiate community in two different departments! This minor gives students access to the courses, faculty and resources of both the Department of Marketing and Management and the Department of Communication and Journalism. This gives students the unique opportunity to learn from faculty with various specialties and network with students in both schools.

Professional development is an important part of all UW programs, and the minor in marketing communication is no different. All students have the opportunity to complete an internship related to communication, public relations or marketing.

Students complete service learning projects in their advertising and public relations courses. In these projects, students work with actual clients and experience solving real-world communication and marketing challenges.

This unique minor includes two paths, a marketing emphasis and a communication and journalism emphasis. Splitting the minor into two paths helps each student get a specialized education that complements their major. Students pursuing a major in the Department of Communication & Journalism complete the marketing emphasis, whereas College of Business students complete the communication and journalism emphasis.
