Wilder attended Casper College in his hometown and currently lives in Riverton, Wyo., where he works as a civil engineering technician. In spring 2014 he’ll complete the land surveying certificate program through the UW Outreach School. “I plan to work toward becoming a licensed surveyor, and the certification is a big step toward achieving that goal,” he says.
His courses involved video lectures and audio teleconferencing. “I work full time and am trying to raise a family, so I needed education that was really flexible to my schedule, something I wouldn’t be away from home much.
“Everyone has been great to work with—from the folks in the local office here to the instructors. It wasn’t easy to go back after so many years, but it’s been a great experience, thanks to these people.”
Wilder enjoys working outdoors and believes his land surveying license will also help him earn more. “I would encourage anyone of any age to continue to grow in their education,” he says. “This format offered by UW is a great tool to help them in that growth.”
