WATR Donated iPad for Communication Needs

An SLP from Children's Resource Center in Cody, Wyoming contacted WATR to see if we could help a student with communcation needs at home. The family did not have the means to purchase a new iPad. WATR was able to provide this family with an iPad from the WATR Reuse program and now this student is able to communicate with the family as well as the family in Mexico when they visit. The family in Mexico had not been able to communicate very well with this student in the past, so a big milestone was reached! The student is using the LAMP Words for Life app to communicate on this iPad.

Tiered AAC Assessments

The Wyoming Assistive Technology Resources (WATR) program provides assistance in identifying appropriate augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) for students/individuals across the state using a tiered assessment approach.  In fiscal year 2023, WATR collaborated with teams of professionals, families, and AAC users to complete 33 AAC assessments.  This approach had a high success rate (96%) as 32 individuals successfully obtained an AAC system.  We are happy to be able to offer a wide spectrum of services aimed at building capacity for AAC within your agency and region while meeting the unique communication needs of the individual.  If you are interested in completing an AAC tiered assessment, please contact Terri Wofford twofford@uwyo.edu.
