LEARNING TRACKS

Please note: Those seeking only the Work Zone certification, not the ATSSA Flagger certification, can register under the Work Zone / Other option and join the afternoon Transportation Track or Operation

Training Description: A daylong session focusing on innovative solutions, best practices, and emerging trends in transportation infrastructure, safety, and maintenance. Sessions cover topics such as roadway design, traffic management, multimodal transportation, and new technologies aimed at improving efficiency and sustainability in local and rural transportation networks.

Who should attend: Transportation and public works professionals seeking updates on current practices, technologies, and solutions for local and rural agencies.

Note: An extra WZ/ATSSA session has been added for the day before the conference on April 14th.

Training Description: The morning session covers basic aspects of traffic control in work zones, including use of the MUTCD to select appropriate layouts and procedures for ensuring work zone safety. The afternoon session is specifically for those who will be flaggers, covering their role in the work zone and how to perform the job safely and effectively. Those who successfully complete the morning and afternoon sessions and pass the written and demonstration tests will receive a three-year, nationally recognized ATSSA flagger certificate.

Who should attend: Local government workers and anyone who will be working on a job site or serving as a flagger are encouraged to attend.

Training Description: The morning session covers traffic control in work zones, including MUTCD layout selection and safety procedures. The afternoon session transitions to transportation track topics, covering a range of subjects pertaining to worksite management and best practices.

Who should attend: Those in supervisory or management roles who want foundational work zone knowledge combined with broader transportation topics.

Training Description: A full-day certification course covering all aspects of Local Project Administration through WYDOT. Topics include program management, consultant selection, contracting, NEPA, right-of-way, and more. The day concludes with the certification exam. Local Project Administration enables cities, towns, and nonprofit agencies to make transportation improvements with federal and state funding. A certified staff member takes charge of a "locally administered project" in partnership with WYDOT, ensuring all federal and state requirements are met.

Who should attend: Any city, town, county, or local public agency employee or consultant project manager who will be responsible for the oversight of a federally funded project. Attendees are expected to already possess a working knowledge of this subject.

Training Description: Designed specifically for road and field crews—the professionals operating equipment, handling materials, and keeping roads functioning every day. This hands-on-focused track emphasizes practical skills, field experience, and real-world operations. Topics may include equipment operation, maintenance practices, and surface management, with sessions tailored to those doing the work on the ground.

Session Time: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Who should attend: Road crews, equipment operators, maintenance staff, and field personnel responsible for day-to-day operations.

Details and speakers will be announced as the agenda is finalized.
