About the Transportation and Safety Congress
Local Public Adminstration (LPA)
Training Description: Local Project Administration through WYDOT enables cities, towns and nonprofit agencies
to make transportation improvements with federal and state money. A certified staff
member takes charge of a “locally administered project” in partnership with WYDOT
which makes sure all federal and state requirements are met. Requirements can be overwhelming
to local agencies, especially if federal funds are infrequently used. The goal is
to assist local agencies in bringing projects to successful completion.
Who should attend: Any city, town, county, or local public agency employee or consultant project manager
who will be responsible for the oversight of a federally funded project should attend
this certification workshop. Attendees are expected to already possess a working knowledge
of this subject.
Work Zone/ATSSA
Training Description: The morning session will cover basic aspects of traffic control in work zones. Use
of the MUTCD to select an appropriate layout will be covered, along with the procedures
that should be followed to make sure the work zone is safe. The afternoon session
is specifically for those who will be flaggers. Flaggers must understand their role
in the work zone and they need to know how to perform their job safely and effectively.
This will be covered in the afternoon session. Those who successfully complete the
morning and afternoon sessions and pass the written and demonstration tests will receive
a three-year, nationally recognized ATSSA flagger certificate.
Who should attend: This class is specifically designed for local government workers, anyone who will
be working on a site would be encouraged to attend.
Transportation Track
A daylong session focusing on innovative solutions, best practices, and emerging trends in transportation infrastructure, safety, and maintenance. Sessions cover topics such as roadway design, traffic management, multimodal transportation, and new technologies aimed at improving efficiency and sustainability in local and rural transportation networks.
Work Zone/Transportation Track
Training Description: The morning session will be the same as the WorkZone above. However, the afternoon
will be devoted to a range of topics pertaining to the managent and best practices
of a worksite.
Who should attend: Those in workshop management roles are encouraged to attend.
The Wyoming Technology Transfer Center officially recognized the first class of Roads Scholars and Master Roads Scholars in the year 2000. Since that time, the program has grown tremendously. The Roads Scholars Program is offered a most LTAP/TTAP centers. Earning recognition places you within the group of other highly trained transportation workers throughout the Nation.
The men and women who have earned this recognition are commended for their commitment to continuing their education and improving their skills. As of 2022 there are 39 Master Roads Scholars and 128 Roads Scholars in Wyoming. Being recognized as a Roads Scholar requires the successful completion of at least twelve (12) Wyoming Technology Transfer Center workshops. Recognition as a Master Roads Scholar requires the successful completion of at least twenty (20) Wyoming Technology Transfer Center workshops.
