Wyoming Materials Technician Certification Program

About the program

• These workshops offer a specialized certification program emphasizing Wyoming DOT specifications and procedures.
• The intentions of the workshops are a review of materials and processes to obtain certification and are not introductory training courses.
• The first part of the certification consists of online classroom sessions covering material specific information and video demonstrations. All instruction is online through Zoom and written tests are administered through an  online test-taking platform.
• The second part of the certification is an in-person, hands-on performance test. 
• The successful completion will fulfill the testing technician certification requirements for Wyoming DOT QC/QA projects. WYDOT issues a certificate upon successfully passing both the online written test and the performance test. Wyoming DOT QC/QA projects require that testing technicians be certified for asphalt and concrete projects.
• All certifications are good for 5 years.

Who Should Attend?

People requiring the qualifications for conducting or overseeing materials testing on WYDOT QC/QA projects are encouraged to apply. Course requirements:

• Access to a working computer with a camera, speakers, and a microphone to interact in the class. 
• Access to a working printer (to print course materials & worksheets for the exam).
• A way to download and save provided PDFs onto your computer.
• Zoom installed on the computer https://zoom.us/download 
• A calculator with the STAT function and an understanding of how to use it.

Daily Schedule for all Sessions

• Day 1: 1pm to 5pm
• Day 2: 8am to 4pm
• Day 3: testing 8am to Noon

Portland Cement Concrete:

• February Session; February 10 – 12, 2025
• May Session: May 28 – 30, 2025

Volumetrics:

THIS CLASS IS NOW FULL - Spring Session February 3 – 5, 2025

Volumetrics Information:

• Certification is offered once annually, with priority registration given to those with upcoming WYDOT volumetrics projects.
• Certifications in Soil & Aggregates and Asphalt are required and will be verified before registration
• is confirmed. 
• There are only 12 slots available in this certification so early registrations are encouraged

In-Person Performance Exam Dates 

The hands-on portion of the test is conducted in Cheyenne and is required for certification. The test begins at 8AM and finishes by Noon. Per WMTC policy, testers that are recertifying may be exempt from the in person performance exam if they have sufficient Independent Assurance Inspections.  You will need to contact the WYDOT materials program to confirm your eligibility.
