Jinke Tang

Dr. TangDr. Jinke Tang is a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Tang's group studies photoluminescent materials that can harvest a high energy photon and emit two near infrared photons of wavelengths ideal for efficient absorption by Si based photovoltaic solar cells, via quantum cutting energy transfer that has quantum efficiency approaching 200%. The materials can be used in luminescent solar concentrators that are designed to reduce the usage of Si and reduce the energy loss due to thermalization of high-energy photons. His group also investigates advanced nanostructured thermoelectric materials. These materials can be used for harvesting solar thermal energy and for thermoelectric cooling of photovoltaic solar cells. In addition, they have potential applications in harvesting energy from waste heat.
