• The Ruckelshaus Institute Fall 2008 Board meeting will occur Oct. 31-Nov. 1 at the Plains Hotel in Cheyenne. A registration form is available by clicking "Registration Form." The registration deadline is Oct. 20.

   

  This will be a special Board meeting to welcome new Director Indy Burke. The Board's agenda includes a review and discussion of the draft Academic Plan for the Haub School and Ruckelshaus Institute. Regular working group meetings (water, energy and open space) will also occur at the meeting.

• "Renowned Ecologist Named Director of UW's Environment and Natural Resources Program" (click link to read more about new Director Indy Burke.) 

• "Research needs and management strategies for Pallid Sturgeon Recovery" is a new report on the proceedings of a Ruckelshaus Institute workshop held in 2007 with experts from around the country.

• Distinguished speakers Bill Ruckelshaus and John F. Turner participated in "Lifetimes of experience with collaborative public process: A conversation with Bill Ruckelshaus an John Turner" (click link/title to view this speaking event.) Sarah Bates, deputy director for policy and outreach for Western Progress, discussed "From Quincy to the Beaverhead: Major provocations in collaborative conservation, and many small victories in between." • A statewide survey of Wyoming voters was conducted in 2007 on opinions about several conservation issues.  A publication on the survey is now available.
   
• A Summit on Finding the Balance: Energy and Climate was held Oct. 8-10, 2007 in Jackson.  Please follow the link for information and presentations from the summit.
   
• A workshop on Water, Drought and Wyoming's Climate was held on  Thursday, October 5, 2006 at the Centennial Complex / American Heritage Center.  Please follow the link for more information and reports.
   
• A new energy resources clearinghouse website is now available online.  This is an expansion from the CBM Clearinghouse website to include all energy resources in Wyoming.
   
• A statewide conference entitled Growing Pains:  Planning for Wyoming's Changing Communities and Landscapes was held on May 9-10, 2006 in Cheyenne. The keynote speaker was Ed McMahon, Charles Fraser Senior Resident Fellow for Sustainable Development at the Urban Land Institute.  Please follow the link above for more information and to view a video of Ed McMahon's presentation.
   
• The Institute's final report on Water Production from Coalbed Methane Development in Wyoming is now available.
   
• The Future of Energy, a public presentation by Matthew R. Simmons, was held on September 23, 2005 in Jackson, Wyoming followed by a panel discussion on September 24th.  For more information and to view the presentations, click here. 
   
• Brucellosis Working Symposium:  A facilitated multi-stakeholder working symposium was held on the University of Wyoming campus on August 16-18, 2005.  The workshop brought together key individuals from federal, state, academic and private sectors to formulate a Strategic Action Plan for an “Initiative to Enhance Brucellosis Vaccines, Vaccine Delivery, and Surveillance Diagnostics for Bison and Elk in the Greater Yellowstone Area. The technical report from the workshop and The Laramie Agenda: a roadmap for improved vaccines, vaccine delivery, and testing for brucellosis in elk and bison in the Greater Yellowstone Area are available from the U.S. Animal Health Association.

• The First Conference on Coalbed Natural Gas Research, Monitoring and Applications was held on August 17-19, 2004 in Laramie.  The Wyoming State Geological Survey (WSGS) has published the conference proceedings as Public Information Circular No. 43 (PIC-43), titled Coalbed natural gas conference: I – Research, monitoring, and applications. The papers are generally in extended abstract form and most contain figures, tables, maps, and references as presented at the conference. The report is available from the Publications Sales Office at the WSGS in Laramie for $15.00 (Wyoming addresses add 6% sales tax) plus $6.00 for shipping and handling.
