Funding for New Graduate Students

Nearly all of our graduate students are supported through state-funded assistantships and external research grants.

Our normal Geology & Geophysics stipend is $2500 above the standard UW stipend.

Assistantships funded by external research grants will likely offer higher stipends.

If you have any questions about the enhanced assistantships or any other aspect of graduate admissions, please contact the chair of the graduate committee, (Cliff Riebe).

Photo from the 2015 annual Rocky Mountain Field Trip for new graduate students. Experts from the industry, guests and friends routinely contribute to science discussed on the trip. Here, new graduate students listen in at a stop led by Peter Hennings, formerly of ConocoPhillips, who is also Adjunct Professor in the Department.
