The Marketing department typically has eight to ten Ph.D. students, at differing stages of their program, at any one time.

From inception, our program has emphasized the opportunity to specialize in sustainability and consumer well-being. As a small, tailored program, we can also guide specializations in areas such as consumer behavior, consumer culture, sales management, and innovation and entrepreneurship.

International students must provide official proof of English Proficiency.  We accept both TOEFL and IELTS scores. We require a minimum score of 540 on the paper-based TOEFL, 207 on the computerized TOEFL, 76 on the internet-based TOEFL, or a 6.5 on the IELTS.

If an applicant is unable to complete the TOEFL or IELTS due to COVID, they can submit Duolingo results instead. A Duolingo score of 110 or higher is required to meet the English proficiency for UW graduate admissions.

Upon admission to the program, a requirement of your graduate assistantship is that you are required to take and pass the Oral Proficiency Interview by computer (OPIc) exam. If you have already taken the OPIc within the past two years and have submitted the certification you are not required to take the OPIc.

The marketing department does not accept late applications. We begin accepting applications in October for the following fall semester. All completed applications must be submitted by February 1st. Please reach out to the Graduate Director if you have any questions, MktPhd@uwyo.edu.

The majority of the applicant pool for the Ph.D. program has their Master's degree. Your application will be more competitive with a Master's degree and therefore the Department recommends that applicants obtain their Master's degree prior to applying for the Ph.D. program. Highly qualified students without a Master's degree may receive consideration.

For students entering with a graduate degree in hand, the stipend is approximately $18,000 for a nine-month period and requires approximately 20 hours/week of service as a research assistant, teaching assistant or classroom teacher. Students making satisfactory progress receive financial support for at least four years in the PhD program. Summer financial support in the amount of $4,000 - $6,000 may also be available and would require assistantship duties.
