Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts

The Department of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and offers a variety of degrees in an environment small enough for personal attention yet large enough to support musical activity at every level.

Mission Statement

Vision

Faculty in the Department of Music strive to prepare musicians to educate, inspire, and engage their communities, and to consistently pursue excellence in artistic expression.

Mission

As members of Wyoming's land-grant university, we offer an innovative, diverse, and challenging curriculum to prepare graduates for a life in music that reflects 21st century opportunities. We welcome students from a variety of backgrounds to create an enriched educational environment where students may dedicate themselves to excellence in collaboration. We resolve to enrich the lives of those we encounter through passionate performance and transformative engagement.

Faculty Mission

We develop individual musicians in an environment that guides, provides opportunities for excellence, and values each student and their experiences. We model excellence in the creation, performance, scholarship, and pedagogy of our art. We cultivate creative thinking and reflection, and promote the humanistic value and benefits of life-long music-making in all students, regardless of major.

The Department of Music offers many different ensembles which provide students with an abundance of activities and performance opportunities. Most of our students perform in multiple ensembles.

UW Faculty Recital Series Features Trio Nov. 13

November 6, 2018 ‖ The University of Wyoming Department of Music’s Faculty Recital Series will feature flutist Sara Lima da Silveira Costa, violist Glêsse Collet and pianist Theresa Bogard Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. The performance is free and open to the public.

November 2, 2018 ‖ The University of Wyoming Department of Music’s Faculty Recital Series continues with a collaboration featuring Jesse Lee, Blake McGee, Tiger Robison and John Wilhelm Friday, Nov. 9, at 8 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. The performance is free and open to the public.
