Welcome to the Department of Music

The University of Wyoming Department of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and offers a variety of degrees in an environment small enough for personal attention yet large enough to support musical activity at every level.

Mission Statement

The University of Wyoming Department of Music's mission is multi-faceted. As artists/performers/teachers, we offer the highest level of instruction in preparing music majors and non majors for leadership positions as professional performers, excellent teachers, and as continuing creative individuals in the field of music. As active performing community, we continue to position the Department of Music as a state, regional, national, and international artistic and cultural leader in performance, teacher education, research and creative activities. As role models and leaders, we serve the state and region as resources for music educators, for community performances, and as mentors and guides for young musicians seeking future musical careers.

October 5, 2015 — Anne Guzzo, associate professor in the University of Wyoming Department of Music, is serving as composer-in-residence with the Colorado Chamber Orchestra (CCO).

September 29, 2015 — The University of Wyoming Symphony Orchestra opens the fall season with George Gershwin’s masterpiece “Porgy and Bess” Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the concert hall at the newly renovated Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts.

September 25, 2015 — Wyoming’s commitment to excellence in the performing arts will be celebrated with symphony and theater performances during the grand opening and ribbon cutting for the expanded and renovated University of Wyoming Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts Thursday, Oct. 8.

September 22, 2015 — The University of Wyoming Department of Music’s Faculty Recital Series continues Friday, Sept. 25, at 7:30 p.m. with the “Modern Saxophone Sonata.” The free public performance will be in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts new recital hall.

UW Faculty Showcase Recital Opens Music Season Sept. 18

September 10, 2015 — Some of the University of Wyoming’s acclaimed faculty chamber players will perform in the Department of Music’s Faculty Showcase Friday, Sept. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the newly opened Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. The program is free and open to the public.
