Research:

My laboratory is interested in studying insulin and insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1)-mediated signal transduction in neuronal cells. Our long-range goal is to identify the role of insulin and IGF1 in neurodegenerative disorders. Our hypothesis is that impaired insulin and IGF-1 signaling leads to impairment of neuronal functions associated with neurodegenerative diseases. We use the general techniques of cell biology such as tissue culture, Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, immunocytochemistry and the techniques of molecular biology, including the use of adenoviral vectors for transgene expression and knock-out animals. Outcome of our studies will help in understanding the mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders and may aid in developing novel therapeutic strategies to treat or prevent these conditions.
