Ceremony Detail & Expectations

SIGMA THETA TAU INTERNATIONAL, INC. is the National Honor Society of Nursing. The University of Wyoming chapter, Alpha Pi, was chartered in 1966. The purpose of the organization is to recognize superior achievement, recognize the development of leadership qualities, foster high professional standards, encourage creative work, and strengthen commitment to the ideals and purposes of the profession.

The Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing hosts the Sigma Theta Tau Induction Ceremony in the spring during graduation weekend. Membership is by invitation only. We encourage our graduating students who are being inducted to participate in this ceremony.

Coffee/Tea and breakfast breads will be provided by the UW Alpha Pi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the College of Health Sciences Atrium (1st floor) prior to the Induction Ceremony which begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Arts & Sciences Auditorium.

Family & Friends of Graduating Students being Inducted

  • Be seated in the Arts &Sciences Auditorium (doors open to the audience at approximately 10:00 a.m.)

  • Programs available at the doors into the auditorium

  • Wheelchair access available at the east entrance

  • Ceremony starts promptly at 10:30 a.m.

Graduating Students being Inducted

  • Wear professional dress.

  • Do not bring coats, purses, other possessions into the ceremony. Please leave those items with family/friends.

  • Plan to arrive at the Arts & Sciences (A&S) building prior to 10:30 a.m. If your family is with you, have them seated in the auditorium at that time (doors open to the audience at approximately 10:00 a.m.).

  • No later than 10:20 a.m., head into the A&S Auditorium to the reserved seating area (lower, middle section, front rows closest to the stage).

  • Reserved seating arranged by individual nursing program (Basic BSN, BRAND, RN-BSN, & DNP) and alphabetically by last name. Please find your assigned seat.

  • Ceremony starts promptly at 10:30 a.m.
