School of Energy Resources Participates in UW Giving Day 2023

The University of Wyoming (UW) is once again engaged in a campus-wide initiative to foster philanthropic giving in support of UW programs, departments, and students on October 25-26, 2023 from noon-noon.

Over the 24-hour period, donors are encouraged to give to their favorite programs and engage in challenges and matching fund opportunities to subsidize scholarship, enrichment activities, and program development for continued student success and in support of cutting-edge research.

While SER works diligently to provide innovative research to the state, it is also focused on providing a quality education for the future energy leaders of Wyoming. This year, the School of Energy Resources is hoping to reach a fundraising goal of $15,000 in support of the Energy Resource Management and Development (ERMD) program and for general operations at SER.

The Energy Resource Management and Development degree (ERMD) at SER boasts the versatility to incorporate all areas of interest in the energy sector, and provides real-world learning opportunities for its students. Both students and practitioners alike, report that these learning experiences significantly enhance the education offered at SER and creates graduates with a better understanding of the energy industry in Wyoming.

“No gift is too small when it comes to making an impact on the life, education, and experience of a University of Wyoming student,” says SER Academic Director Kami Danaei. “We have seen an increased enthusiasm around Giving Day as it is a great and easy way to crowdsource support for our students and programs on a small scale to make a significant difference.”

SER funds showcased in this year’s campaign efforts include:

— The Director’s Discretionary Fund is a general, unrestricted fund which allows the SER Director to allocate resources to an area of greatest need across administrative obligations.

— The Student Travel Fund supports experiential learning and engagement opportunities. Through the use of this fund, students are able to learn directly from experts in the field through industry visits, network with regional professionals in the energy sector by attending national and regional conferences, and apply what they have learned in the classroom through micro-internships and shadowing visits.

— The Professional Land Management (PLM) Student Fund allows students in the ERMD program to engage with their peers through club activities and student involvement opportunities on campus.

SER Executive Director Holly Krutka will match the first $1,500 donated to SER, dollar for dollar.

“Having sufficient resources to support our students and our overall program is critical to achieving the best outcomes possible. We are so grateful for all that participate in giving large and small to the School of Energy Resources,” says Krutka. “I hope folks will join me in helping to create a culture in which we foster giving for the purpose of serving our student and Wyoming.”
