Cowboy Parents

On behalf of Cowboy Parents, the University of Wyoming's Parents and Family Association, welcome! Cowboy Parents serves as your voice and connection to UW. The organization was founded in 1991 to recognize the essential role you play in your student's academic success.

Cowboy Parents provides the university with a parental perspective on the institution, its policies, and services. Its programs and publications are designed to assist you in supporting your university student and to enhance the learning environment at UW. Active members serve on the Cowboy Parents Council, on university committees, as university ambassadors, as volunteers, and as consultants for the families of prospective students. There are no dues assessed for membership.

Funding for Cowboy Parents comes from the generous support of UW parents and families. Families may choose to support this wonderful organization through private gifts. All dollars contributed to Cowboy Parents go directly to activities and programs that support student welfare and parental involvement, including this e-newsletter for the parents of new students and the resources listed below.

  • Two issues per year of the Wyoming Family keeps families informed on important student and university issues. Please register your email at www.uwyo.edu/cowboyparents to receive this e-newsletter.
  • An informative website that provides helpful and detailed information on UW parent and student resources and includes downloadable publications and materials. Access our website at www.uwyo.edu/cowboyparents.
  • The Cowboy Parents Student Emergency Fund is a source of financial assistance for current students in emergency situations.
  • James C. Hurst Each Student-A Person Award honors faculty and staff who are exceptional in creating a caring community for UW students.
  • Family Weekend is your opportunity each fall to share the UW experience with your student.
  • Cowboy Parents Fall Reception: parents and families can drop in for refreshments and conversation with Cowboy Parents Council members and UW administrators during the Summit/Freshman Move-In in August.

Many parents express their gratitude for the program and how connected they feel to the university life through Cowboy Parents. "This is a wonderful parents' organization it gives us a chance to meet with UW administrators, volunteer at UW functions, and have a voice at UW.  It gives us an opportunity to give back to a University that has given so much to our son and daughter we think you will feel the same!" said Cowboy Parents Council member Maryalice Gulino.
