If you want to go abroad for a semester or a year and take classes at a partner university, consider an exchange or direct-enroll program. For studying with UW faculty and students, check out UW faculty-led programs. Other factors like your desired level of independence and preferred regions will also help guide your choice. Take your time and enjoy the process of exploring as the first step in your journey abroad!

Studying abroad is an immensely enriching experience, both personally and academically. To ensure success, it’s key to align your program with your academic goals. By understanding how the program will contribute to your degree requirements, you can maximize your time abroad while staying on track for graduation. With careful planning, preparation, and collaboration with your advisor, you can participate in a study abroad program without delaying your degree progress, reducing academic stress and leaving more room to fully enjoy all the delights of your time abroad—and hopefully an extra pastry or two.

In order to participate in UW sanctioned education abroad programs, you must meet the following requirements:
- A minimum of a 2.75 university/college GPA
- 30 or more credit hours (sophomore standing or higher)
- Good standing with the university and not on academic or disciplinary probation
- Second-semester freshmen can participate in the Spring London Semester, the Fall Rome Semester or Faculty-Led programs (with faculty approval)
If you don’t currently meet these requirements, don’t fret! Meet with your advisor to create a plan to get on track for eligibility.
