We have a long history at the University of Wyoming, coursework in speech correction, as it was known at that time, was initiated in 1940, and the first dedicated degree bachelor’s degree in speech correction, was awarded to Barbara Kahn in January 1952. The Division of Communication Disorders offers a bachelor's (B.S.) degree in Speech, Language and Hearing Science, and Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology. We have very productive research faculty, creating and disseminating basic and clinical science to inform practice across the lifespan. Our clinical program provides services to the community and state of Wyoming, with 2800 - 3,000 patient contacts a year. The primary careers in the field of communication disorders are speech-language pathology and audiology. Speech-language pathologists and audiologists work as clinicians, researchers, instructors, and clinical supervisors. They work in a variety of settings including hospitals, clinics, schools, research laboratories, industry, private practice, government agencies, the armed forces, and post-secondary education.
Research & Facilities
The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of teaching places the University of Wyoming in it's highest research classification, Doctoral/Research Universities--Extensive. UW attracts $40-50 million annually in research contracts and grants. As a graduate student, you will find a caring, nurturing atmosphere with excellent student services to support you.
Leveling Program
This graduate program curriculum builds on an undergraduate degree in communication disorders. If you have a bachelor's degree in a different area, you must complete a core set of courses called Leveling. The courses can be completed in one academic year on campus.

In addition to amazing general scholarships offered at the time of undergraduate admission to UW, the Division of Communication Disorders offers merit-based scholarships to new and returning students within the division.
