ASUW First-Year Senate is the official student government for first-year students at the University of Wyoming. As a First-Year senator, you will work to make a difference in the student experience at the University of Wyoming through reviewing and recommending ASUW Student Senate legislative action and working with ASUW Senators and students-at-large on issues that affect campus life at the University of Wyoming. 

ASUW First-Year Senate will also provide substantial and valuable networking opportunities. Through your work as a First-Year senator, you will connect and build meaningful relationships with students, faculty, administrators, and elected officials from across the state of Wyoming. These connections will aid you in bettering your experiences as a student at the University of Wyoming.

The First-Year Senate meets on Tuesdays at 5:15 PM in the ASUW Senate Chambers, located in the Wyoming Union.

Procedures

The Procedures Committee will be responsible for reviewing and maintaining the governing documents, rules, and procedures of the First-Year Senate. The Committee shall regularly review the First-Year Senate Constitution, Bylaws, and other governing documents and recommend amendments when changes are necessary to improve the operation of the body.

Traditions and Student Outreach

The Traditions and Student Outreach Committee will be responsible for strengthening relationships between the First-Year Senate and the broader University community. The Committee shall coordinate outreach to individual students, student organizations, and other campus groups to promote awareness of the First-Year Senate, ASUW programs, available student resources, and opportunities for student involvement.

Steering

The Steering Committee will be responsible for coordinating the legislative and administrative work of the First-Year Senate. The Committee shall review legislation and other matters brought before the First-Year Senate and refer those matters to the appropriate committee for further consideration. The Committee shall assist in developing meeting agendas, coordinating committee activities, and ensuring that projects and legislation move efficiently through the First-Year Senate.

Student Affairs, Advocacy, and Policy

The Student Affairs, Advocacy, and Policy Committee will be responsible for identifying and investigating issues affecting first-year students and the broader student body. The Committee shall coordinate with individual students and student organizations to gather opinions and concerns regarding University policy, administration, campus services, and other matters associated with student life. The Committee shall investigate those concerns and work to represent student perspectives throughout the policy and decision-making process.
