CEPS ADVISING CENTER
As a child of the military Bremen Whitlock has traveled a great deal in his life.
He first moved to Laramie in 2008 and graduated high school in 2012. Attending LCCC
he moved to Cheyenne with his then girlfriend, now wife, where began his Bachelor
of Science in Psychology as CSU online. In 2018 though, leaving Cheyenne and CSU,
the two moved back to Laramie with the desire to live closer to family and friends.
Finishing his B.S. in Psychology he began his M.S. in Human Development and Family
Sciences at UW, while his wife finished her B.A. in English at UW and earned her MLIS
at Indiana Purdue online. While finishing his M.S. in the Spring semester of 2023,
Bremen began work at the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences as an Academic
Advisor, using his education in psychology, sociology, and family science to aid students
from all walks of life to meet their academic goals.
Philosophy
From both my personal and educational experiences, I have come to understand that
everyone has a unique background and motivation with their academic career. I present
myself as a confident and empathetic advisor who will encourage students to build
rapport with me so we can collaborate throughout their academic journey. My goal is
to help students make best-informed decisions during advising that works with their
life circumstances and overall career/life goals. Following the practices of Appreciative
Advising, I aim to emphasize student strengths in order to achieve higher rates of
academic success. Using scientific, data-driven methods of goal setting and personal
development, I hope the work I do with students will motivate them to rise to new
challenges and work toward Identity achievement. I aim to provide students with resources
that both UW and Laramie offer in order to help them with managing work, school, health,
and identity growth. My goal is to help students mature into the responsible, successful
adults they want to be. My own education is never done. Thanks to resources like NACADA,
I continue to study and research methods and practices with advising in order to refine
my own practices and perform my job duties to the best of my ability.
