Communication & Journalism Department


COJO offers a bachelor's degree in communication and a bachelor's degree in journalism.

COJO also offers minors in

Broadly speaking, our majors and minors take courses oriented toward media production, communication theory, and research.

Communication careers can include human resources, speech writer, sales, government, lawyer, political campaign director, communication consultant, diversity consultant, governmental lobbyist, public information office, speech instructor, or customer service representative.

For journalism majors, the department encourages journalism majors to work actively in media production. The department offers unique professional opportunities for students with the student newspaper (the Branding Iron), Wyoming Public Media, UWTV, and University of Wyoming Athletics.

Required courses are listed here for students who began a COJO major before fall 2015 as well as for students who enrolled fall 2015 or later. Please note that university and COJO requirements changed in fall 2015, when the university began a new set of university program requirements.

For communication majors, there are six suggested advising tracks based on your interested areas. The six tracks are advertising, visual communication, cultural communication, political communication, public relations, and rhetorical studies.
