ECHO Autism & Positive Behavior Supports

UW ECHO in Autism & Positive Behavior Supports provides ongoing support for educators and other professionals working with students with Autism by providing professional development and specific program planning for students.

Network participants include school administrators, general and special education teachers and paraeducators, case managers, school counselors, school psychologists, state agency staff, and special education service providers, including OTs, PTs, SLPs, etc.

Session Information

Sessions are on Tuesdays, bi-weekly, 3:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. MT via Zoom video conferencing technology.

This presentation will focus on the importance of developing a collaborative team to create a positive school environment, improve student engagement (outcomes), and strengthen relationships between students, parents, and teachers.

Special Education Directors play a crucial role in supporting team members who work with autistic students in the school district. Directors provide professional development, guidance to staff, providing support through outside expertise, and strategic implementation of effective practices. This session will provide strategies for supporting parents and school district staff members as they develop annual plans to in programming for individual students (i.e., challenging behaviors).

Join this session to learn how school-based professionals, including Occupational Therapists and Speech Language Pathologists, can contribute to a team approach in supporting students with Autism. This special session will address two community discussion (case) topics related to increasing attendance and addressing concerns about chronic absences. This group learning will also focus on strategies to increase parent-teacher relationships and the impact of chronic absences on an IEP (Individualized Education Program).

This presentation will clarify the role of a school BCBA on the IEP and multidisciplinary team, including assessment, behavior planning, staff support, and data-based decision making. We will explore how using an applied behavior lens strengthens collaboration, improves student outcomes, and ensures interventions are practical, measurable, and aligned with educational goals.
