Honors College Residence Options

Honors House

The Honors House is a special living option offered in collaboration between the Honors College and Residence Life & Dining Services.

Located on the corner of Fraternity Row and 15th Street, the Tudor-style landmark was built in 1940. On the main floor of the house, there is a formal dining area and sitting room along with a 2.5 story great room and fireplace. Both double and single rooms are equipped with single beds that can be lofted or bunked, a desk with a hutch and chair, and a three-drawer wardrobe.

The Honors House has a full kitchen, game room, study areas, laundry facilities, and plenty of common space. Floor plans of the Honors College House are provided by UW Residential Living.

  • Complete the Honors House Application

Review of Honors House applications for the Academic Year 2022-2023 will begin May 1st, 2022, and continue until the house is filled. Students selected for placement in the Honors House must be members in good standing of the University Honors College.  To be considered for Honors House placement, a completed residence hall contract with Residence Life & Dining Services (RLDS) is required.  Honors House room pricing is based on room type and is the same as residence hall pricing.  A Washakie Dining Center meal plan is required of all Honors House residents and is selected as part of your RLDS housing contract.  Students will be selected in late May or early June for the Honors House and notified via email.  Rooms will be assigned for this community, and all rooms are open for new assignments each year. Spots in the Honors House are limited due to the number of beds available (30).

Honors Residence Hall Communities

The Honors College has living communities in the residence halls for students who wish to experience the traditional living environment of university life.  Currently, the Honors College Residence Hall Communities are in Downey Hall.  Spots in the Honors College Residence Hall Communities are less competitive than the Honors House due to the higher number of beds. Floor plans of Downey Hall are provided by UW Residential Living.

Downey Hall

Downey Hall, named after June Etta Downey was constructed in 1965 and is an eight-story building that houses up to 384 residents.

June Etta Downey was an American psychologist who studied personality and handwriting. Downey was born and raised in Laramie, Wyoming, where she received her degree in Greek and Latin from the University of Wyoming. Throughout her life, Downey wrote seven books and over seventy articles. Included in this work, Downey developed the Individual Will-Temperament Test, which was one of the first tests to evaluate character traits separately from intellectual capacity and the first to use psychographics methods for interpretation. In addition to her many published works, Downey held several prestigious positions. She chaired the Department of Psychology and Philosophy at the University of Wyoming and in doing so became the first woman to hold a head position at a state university.
