Maria Almendares

Maria Almendares has worked in the ISS office since 2003 and has been in her current role as Coordinator, Student/Scholar Immigration since 2014. Her primary duties include issuing and maintaining immigration documents and records and providing immigration advising for international students and scholars, most commonly on the F and J visa. Maria also provides general support to international students and scholars regarding academic and personal situations and resources, works to educate the campus on immigration-related issues through presentations and consultation with faculty and staff, assists with programming and other activities for students and scholars, and supports her colleagues in the mission of the larger UW Global Engagement office.

 

Maria has focused her graduate studies on evaluating and providing effective student services that increase student retention and success in post-secondary education, and will complete her Ed.D in Higher Education Administration from UW in 2025.
