Legal Resources

Legal issues can happen. While the ISS office is responsible for assisting international undergraduate and graduate students with F and J visa categories, it does not provide legal advice and does not advise on matters involving international faculty and staff employment at UW.

Please review the following list of resources depending on your legal needs.

Information, Organizations, and Assistance

The organizations, clinics, and firms below are included because they provide accurate information about U.S. immigration laws and procedures or are firms known to be helpful to international students and scholars. Applying general information available on these sites to your own particular situation can be complex. We advise you to consult with an immigration attorney for complex issues or any time there is doubt about a process or law. For criminal issues, you are advised to consult with both a criminal AND immigration attorney.

NOTE: UW and UW ISS do not endorse or recommend any specific law firm or organization.

The American Immigration Lawyers Association website includes an Immigration Lawyer Search Tool that you can use to search by name, location, or type for an immigration attorney who is a member of that organization.

Wyoming State Bar: Website includes a lawyer search by type of law, name, or location in Wyoming; also a list of low-income options for legal assistance. Attorneys listed with the Wyoming State Bar might not have training in immigration law.
