Defender Aid Clinic

Student Clinic Director: Emily Williams

A native of Laramie Wyo., Emily attended the University of Wyoming for her undergraduate degree, which she earned in Human Development and Family Sciences. Driven by a desire to help people, she enrolled in law school knowing that many of the struggles people face in their lives are legal.

Following her 1L year, Emily worked as the summer intern for the Defender Aid Clinic and has been involved in the clinic ever since. Her experience ignited a passion for criminal defense work and she has already proven to be a tenacious and skilled advocate for the Clinic’s clients.

Emily has substantial courtroom time under belt, having argued multiple cases for the Clinic in the District Courts of Johnson County and Washakie County, and before the Wyoming Supreme Court, as well as appearances in other courtroom proceedings across Wyoming.

In addition to her work in the Clinic, Emily has worked as both an intern and an extern with the Wyoming Children’s Law Center, where she has been able to broaden her practical skills base to include civil legal service matters.

Emily brings a fierceness to her role as Clinic Director, and believes that being able to help a person during a time of need when no one else can, or will help is incredibly rewarding and motivating.
