Charles O. Merica

(1908-1912)

Charles Merica was the President of the University of Wyoming from 1908-1912. Merica was originally from Saint Paris, Ohio and was a graduate of DePauw University in Indiana. Merica's academic focus was on rehabilitation at correctional institutions. In 1891, he was elected president of the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. After his term as president of the University of Wyoming from 1908-1912, Merica returned to Indiana. In 1913, he purchased a newspaper in Kendalville, Indiana, which he published until his death in 1918.

Merica Hall on the main UW Campus gets its name from President Charles Merica.
