Practice Interests:
My practice experience and interests include the integration of ethics into social work practice, populations experiencing serious mental illness, the intersection of aging and serious mental illness, dementia care, quality of life and aging, caregiver support, end of life care, grief and bereavement, and integration back into the community from inpatient settings.
Teaching Philosophy:
I strive to set an example, both in word and deed, of integrity and compassion, of service to and advocacy for fellow human beings, in order to promote social justice, and inter-human peace. In the classroom, this looks like creating a safe, collaborative space for students to learn from one another, receive needed guidance and support, and integrate what they are learning in coursework with the work they engage in for their practicum experiences. I do this through a series of active learning experiences, assignments designed to provoke thought and discussion related to various topics, and a mix of structured and unstructured discussion experiences. I regularly incorporate student and peer feedback to improve student learning opportunities and experience. I also prioritize making time available for students to address their questions or concerns and work collaboratively with them to find solutions that best fit their needs.
