Emily Stewart Vercoe, PhD | EPSCoR Education, Outreach, Diversity Coordinator

My role is to facilitate ways science occurring on EPSCoR projects moves from the lab out across the state.

I am an educator with a background in both formal and informal teaching. Over the years, and with my background in education, I’ve gathered tools that enable me communicate complex topics to a variety of audiences. I have worked in science education policy, teacher professional development, nonprofit organizations, and find myself today in academia. Each of these experiences helps me work with EPSCoR funded scientists in labs across campus to a broader audience. As the Education, Outreach, and Diversity coordinator I look for ways to engage the public with broader impacts.  I am also a learner with interest in science education, curriculum development, and integration of computational thinking into classrooms.

I am enthusiastic about supporting thoughtful and curious individuals, whether budding or established, in communicating their research to a larger audience.

Favorite sci com projects I’ve worked on:

  • Film boot camp, how to tell your science story
  • Cross EPSCoR Jurisdiction collaborations on developing best practices for communication, outreach and broader impacts.
  • NABI communications and newsletters.
