I chose to complete my senior capstone at West Park Hospital in Cody, Wyoming. I was drawn to the smaller town and I already had a place to stay. West Park has been a great fit for me, because I am a shy person and all of the staff members have been so welcoming and helpful. This has really made me feel comfortable and I love being there. My preceptor, Marika, has also been great working on new skills with me, providing advice, expanding my comfort zone, and overall teaching me how to be a nurse. I have become more and more confident in my skills as a nurse and am working on my decision-making skills. Being on the floor full-time has really provided me with in-depth experience and the time to be more independent as a student nurse. I have participated or observed nursing skills like ostomy care, port access, PICC line dressing changes, catheter insertion, j-tubes, g-tubes, hemavac drains, and so much more. My time here has been fantastic, and I would not change my capstone experience for anything!
