Lucas Simmons' Experience

2016 Capstone

I have been on the Medical floor at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center since the beginning of the semester, and have had a great experience so far. I'm up to four patients on my own and hope to start with five soon. I have had the opportunity to care for patients with a wide variety of conditions. I have also observed many fascinating procedures, including ultrasound IVs, echo-cardiograms, as well as placing splints in physical therapy.

I am very thankful for my clinical experience thus far, as I have learned a lot about the human side of healthcare as well as what it's like to be a nurse. My confidence has grown immensely since the beginning of my practicum experience, and I feel much better about starting in June as a graduate nurse.

Overall.

The capstone practicum is an extraordinary opportunity for students, and I am very thankful for the privilege to participate. It's helped in countless ways, from showing me the day to day operations of nursing, to providing a hands on chance to put all my classes and previous clinical experience together. The capstone program is an excellent conclusion to the nursing program.
