Graduated 5/2016; Employed by Vanderbilt University Medical Center; Nurse Residency, Trauma Unit
I am from Colorado Springs, Colorado. My interest in nursing began during the middle of my high school career. I thought it would be an interesting and practical career option so I took a Nursing Assistant class and after clinicals for the class I knew I wanted to pursue a degree in nursing.
The University of Wyoming stood out to me because of its excellent nursing program as well as the affordable tuition. On top of that, I just really like the state.
I decided to apply for the Aspire program because it seemed like a great opportunity that I should not pass up. I am very excited for the learning and leadership experiences it will provide.
To me, Aspire is the opportunity to become involved with a group of students who are striving towards the same goals I am and to be involved in learning outside of the classroom setting.
Employment
Worked as a CNA at "The Center" in the Centennial Medical Rehabilitation Facility
Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill
Volunteering
Math and English tutor for 4th grade student
Black Forest Animal Shelter
Roller Coaster Veterinary Clinic
Childcare Assistant at Denver United Church
At the Center at Centennial, I work primarily with a geriatric population. I am very interested in continuing to work in geriatrics upon the completion of my nursing degree. Rehabilitation and long term care are of interest to me. I also want to explore at-home care because I think this can be a great way to provide excellent care to the older population.
During college, I hope to do well in academics and learn the skills that will help me become a capable and knowledgeable nurse. I plan on getting a nursing job soon after I graduate and then maybe returning to school to hopefully pursue the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.
