I love that nursing is so patient-focused, and I like the opportunity to get to know my patients. I also love the way nurses care for their patients—they are so compassionate and genuine. I want to be a nurse that makes an impact in each of my patients' lives in small but significant ways! Nursing provides great opportunities to travel overseas and go on medical mission trips as well.
I decided on UW because of the nursing program's reputation and the opportunity to be in the Honors Program, which offers small class sizes. Also, the tuition is very affordable and I am able to stay in Wyoming!
The opportunity to have mentors was something I loved about the Aspire Program, and the opportunity to partner with other future nurses through the program was exciting. Overall, I thought the Aspire Program would be a jumpstart for me to gain valuable experience before I start the nursing program, and I like that I will be very prepared when the time comes to start. I think this jumpstart will also help me be a better leader and will shape me to become an even better nurse.

During my sophomore year of high school, I had the opportunity to be a part of Medical Explorers, a group sponsored by Cox Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Through this program I was able to learn more about different health professionals as I attended monthly meetings to hear talks from doctors and nurses around the hospital. Also, each month I went to a rotation on a different floor of the hospital, and I had the opportunity to shadow nurses and learn more about different types of nursing. This experience showed me the wealth of opportunities in the medical field and gave me a better idea of what I want to specialize in as a nurse.
I would love to obtain an internship in a Children's Hospital or Cancer Research Hospital, and during one of the summers I would love to take a medical mission trip overseas. I would like to work in either pediatrics or oncology after college for a little while, and then I plan to pursue my Doctor of Nursing Practice and become a pediatric nurse practitioner. I would love to take frequent summer medical mission trips overseas as a nurse practitioner.
