Did you know that eating together can make you and your family healthier? This may seem odd, but studies show that family meal time makes a big difference. Family meal time is good for both adults and children.
Research shows that families that eat together are:
More likely to eat fruits, vegetables, and grains
Less likely to eat unhealthy foods
Less at risk for becoming overweight or obese
Family meal time is especially important for children. It can give them a daily routine and it is a good time for you to connect with them. Eating together is also a good time for children to learn. You can help them start healthy eating habits by role-modeling for them. If your children see you eating well, the will follow your example.
Research shows that children who eat with their families:
Do better in school
Are less likely to smoke, drink, or do drugs
Have stronger social skills
Are more connected to their families
