New email security coming in May

image of a golden mail envelope on top of a computer screen

As we approach the end of the Spring semester, we want to keep everyone informed about upcoming email security changes. We are committed to securing the University from email scams and phishing attempts and will be enforcing stricter requirements for vendors and users sending emails on behalf of the university.

As part of our ongoing efforts to protect our organization and ensure successful email delivery, Information Technology will enforce additional authentication for third-party vendors or campus users sending emails with an address that is not their primary UW account. This change does not impact the normal use of your UW email.

Who will this impact?

Emails being sent from @uwyo.edu addresses where the following apply:

  • Users who send via email clients other than Outlook not using the settings provided in this Knowledge Base article.
  • Vendors or third parties that send emails on behalf of departments or groups that have not previously been whitelisted.
What action is required?

Do you send or receive emails from @uwyo.edu addresses not belonging to individuals?

  • If You’re a Sender: Please reach out to IT and create an Email Whitelisting Request to start work on the required changes.
  • If You’re a Receiver: No action is required from your end, but we would ask that you please let us know
by emailing userhelp@uwyo.edu if a sender indicates their emails are not being delivered to uwyo.edu email accounts.

We are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible. If you have any issues, questions, or concerns, please contact the UW IT Help Desk via email at userhelp@uwyo.edu, chat at support.uwyo.edu, or phone at 307-766-4357 Option 1.
