For the second year in a row, the University of Wyoming College of Law has been named as one of the 56 law schools on the practical training honor roll by PreLaw Magazine and the National Jurist for 2016.

The UW law school is has a strong tradition in skills education and practical training. With a myriad of different experiential learning opportunities including a vibrant externship program, the Summer Trial Institute, and an Estate Planning Practicum, the greatest strength of the Wyoming College of Law is the clinical programs. The law school recently adopted a “Clinic Guarantee” which means that every single law student has the opportunity to participate in one of the SIX full clinics.

Students may participate in any of the following clinics based on their particular area of interest; the Civil Legal Services Clinic, theDefender Aid Program, the Energy, Environmental & and Natural Resources Clinic, the Family and Child Legal Advocacy Clinic, the International Human Rights Clinic, and the Prosecution Assistance Program. Several of the Clinics work directly with state agencies such as the Wyoming Attorney General’s Office, allowing students to gain the valuable skills and first-hand experience that will allow them to hit the ground running immediately upon graduation. Additionally, the College of Law boasts that several of the student within the clinics argue cases regularly before the Wyoming Supreme Court every year with an occasional appearance before the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.

The College of Law is dedicated to giving back to the state of Wyoming. Through the legal clinics, the College has provided service to every single county in Wyoming and is the single largest provider of uncompensated legal services in the state.  The dedication to service and practical training has made Wyoming the law school to attend for students who wish to acquire the skills to be practicing attorneys and judges in the region.

“It is an honor for the University of Wyoming College of Law to be regarded as one of the nation’s leading law schools for practical training byThe National Jurist and PreLaw Magazine this year,” says Dean Klint Alexander. “This recognition, coupled with our top ten U.S. News ranking as one of the most affordable law schools in terms of student debt load, reinforces our goal of being one of the “Best Value” law schools in America for students who want to hit the ground running as practitioners with little or no debt.”

The College of Law is exceedingly proud of this recognition and will continue its dedication to our students’ outstanding education.
