Coe Library Carpet Replacement

CARPET REPLACEMENT PROJECT BEGINS IN COE LIBRARY

Beginning Monday, Oct. 20, University of Wyoming Operations will begin a major carpet replacement project in Coe Library. The work will take place in phases lasting through February or March 2026 and will affect several areas of the building.

Project Overview

The project will refresh high-traffic areas and improve accessibility, safety, and comfort for patrons. Work will occur primarily in the following spaces:

  • Level 1 (west side)
  • Level 2 (main walkway) - work for this area will take place primarily during winter break to minimize patron impact.
  • Level 3 (central stacks area)
  • Level 4 (central stacks area)

During the installation, some study rooms on levels 3 and 4 may be temporarily unavailable, and seating in those areas will be limited.

Study and Seating Options

To ensure patrons continue to have access to quiet and comfortable study spaces, Level 5 stacks will temporarily become a quiet floor while work is underway on Levels 3 and 4.

Additional seating and study options are available throughout Coe Library, including:

  • Book & Bean coffee shop (main level)
  • Student Learning Commons on Level 1
  • Computer labs on Levels 2 and 3

The Geology Library, located in the Geology Building in the northwest corner of campus, is also open Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

Access and Services

Coe Library will remain open throughout the project, though some collections and spaces may be temporarily relocated or inaccessible. Patrons can use Hold for Me, Interlibrary Loan, and Prospector to request materials while certain areas are off line. Signage will be posted to help visitors navigate active work zones.

We appreciate your patience as we complete these important improvements to Coe Library’s facilities and continue our commitment to providing welcoming, accessible spaces for the UW community.
