Instructional Design & Curriculum Support
UW Librarians are available to offer curriculum design support for information, digital, and data literacies for courses including creating or revising effective research assignments and activities.
Instruction Sessions
Librarians are happy to work with classes that have a research component at any course level. These can include brief overview sessions, multiple in-depth sessions tailored to course assignments, as well as embedded instruction in WyoCourses. Submit a request for a librarian to work with your class through the link below.
Learning Objectives
Librarians create step-by-step tutorials, research guides, or videos for your classes that support the course assignments and goals. Submit a request for a learning object for your course through the link below.
Research Librarians
Librarians support a variety of disciplines, tools, and resources. Check out our Research Librarian page to find the best librarian or team for your need.
Course Materials Support
Instructors may use the Libraries Course Reserves service to make readings and resources easily accessible to their students. This may include library owned physical resources, instructor owned texts, Internet links, videos, open access resources, etc.
UW Libraries hosts an Open Educational Resources (OER) alt-textbook grant program for faculty interested in incorporating OER into their course to submit ideas for funding every Fall and Spring semester.
FAQs
The libraries can support instruction for information, digital, or data literacies in in-person, hybrid, or online courses.
Information literacy is the ability to understand how information is produced and valued, and to effectively find, evaluate, use, and communicate information (Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL).
Digital literacy is the ability to ethically and critically use, understand, explore, evaluate, create, and apply information using a range of digital technologies.
Data literacy is the ability to understand, analyze, create, and communicate data to understand information and make informed decisions.
The Libraries have a variety of ways they offer support via your WyoCourse shells.
You can embed discipline and course Research Guides directly into your course shell via the Library Tools tab.
Our InfoLit modules can be found in Canvas Commons and cover topics related to information literacy and the research process including plagiarism, finding resources, keywords, citations, and more. We have developed packages of these tutorials including introduction to research, academic honesty, critical thinking, or discipline and H course focused packages. Or we can develop focused tutorials, videos, and quizzes for information and digital literacy skills in your course.
The Libraries have many ways they can support you in developing accessible and affordable course materials for your students.
Instructors may use the Libraries’ Course Reserves service to make supplemental readings and other materials available to their students.
We run an Alt-Textbook Grant Program, designed to assist faculty in incorporating Open Educational Resources (OER) into their courses.
Learn about our grant cycle and OER.
Looking for additional ways to enhance your students’ research skills?
We offer four standalone workshops aimed at helping students develop research questions, evaluate sources, understand academic honesty and plagiarism, and sharpen their skills for upper-level assignments. You can share these workshops with your classes and allow them to earn extra credit for attending--all through Canvas Commons and the SOAR platform. Check out our tutorial on importing these extra credit workshops.
Library Coaches are peer mentors who can help your students with finding quality information about a topic for their course, find background information, or answer other questions about the Libraries.
You can consult with a librarian to find which research methods can best support your research. We support basic research tips like finding the right databases to more advanced research methods like systematic reviews and meta-analysis.
We can provide you ways on how to develop your scholarly research identity including Google Scholar, ORCiDs, and more. Meet with a librarian or learn more about scholarly profiles and research impact.
Does your research incorporate data? Meet with our Data Management Librarian or learn more about Libraries resources that support use, management, curation, and preservation of research data.
WyoScholar, our Institutional Repository, is a great place to host published, pre-print, or supplemental versions of your publications. You can also host your conference presentations, videos, and more. Learn more about WyoScholar and other open access publishing services.
Classrooms & Learning Spaces
The library hosts three learning spaces. Our classrooms, Coe 216/218, have a primary purpose of library-hosted instruction. The Libraries do not provide space for recurring, non-library instruction. The Coe 123 Media Screening Room is for the viewing of film, television, games, and other multimedia content. Students, faculty, and staff can utilize the space to view films or television for class or personal use, our system is compatible with multiple gaming consoles, and other multimedia content.
