UW Libraries is offering a series of free workshops this October to help students, faculty, and staff develop new skills in research, coding, data management, and creative scholarship. Whether you’re learning the basics of R, exploring open educational resources, or designing an engaging research poster, these sessions provide hands-on instruction in a supportive environment.

OER 101: Pre-Alternative Textbook Grant Workshop
Wednesday, Oct. 1 | Noon–1 p.m.

This workshop is required for all OER Alt-Textbook Grant applications. Participants will explore copyright as it applies to OER, Creative Commons licensing, and requirements for grant applications. Time will be provided for Q&A. If you cannot attend, you may schedule a one-on-one OER grant consultation with Sammy Peter at scook13@uwyo.edu.

Personalized Soundscapes with Studio Coe

Bring everyday sounds to life by crafting your own unique personal soundscape. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to capture, layer, and mix audio—from natural and everyday environments—to tell a story, evoke a mood, or create an immersive background track.

Intro to R

R is a programming language used for statistical computations and data analysis. This session introduces the fundamentals of R and RStudio, including syntax, data types and structures, and data wrangling.

Zotero is a free, open-source citation management tool that helps organize, embed, and generate citations. This session will guide you through creating an account, installing the software, and capturing scholarly sources effectively.

Intro to Scalar

This workshop introduces Scalar, a free digital humanities platform for publishing and sharing research projects online. Learn its core features, explore existing projects, and discover strategies for ensuring your project’s longevity. Please create a Scalar account before attending.

Designing a Research Poster

Need a research poster for a class or conference? This session covers the fundamentals of poster design, clear communication, and accessibility. Software tools discussed will include PowerPoint, InDesign, and Canva. If you don’t already have a Canva account, please create one before the workshop.
