Learn New Skills at UW Libraries’ September Workshops
UW Libraries is offering a series of free workshops this month designed to help students, faculty, and staff build new skills in coding, research management, and digital scholarship. Whether you’re just getting started with Python or looking to explore 3D modeling, these sessions provide hands-on guidance in a supportive learning environment.
Upcoming Workshops
Intro to Python
Wednesday, Sept. 17 | 10 a.m.–noon
Digital Scholarship Center, Coe Library, Room 302 | Register for Intro to Python
Looking to learn Python, but not sure where to start? This workshop covers the fundamentals,
including syntax, data types, variables, and writing a basic script. Participants
will also get a brief introduction to external libraries and how to import them for
projects.
3D Modeling: How to Turn 2D Photos into 3D Objects!
Thursday, Sept. 18 | 1–3 p.m.
Digital Scholarship Center, Coe Library, Room 302 | Register for 3D Modeling
Learn how the Libraries’ Digital and Distinctive Collections Department uses Agisoft
Metashape to process images and create 3D models. Participants will explore the software’s
basic layout and practice building 3D models from 2D images. Computers and software
are provided.
Zotero
Thursday, Sept. 18 | 3–5 p.m.
Online via Zoom | Register for Zotero
Zotero is a free, open-source citation management tool that organizes, embeds, and
generates citations with ease. This session will help participants create a Zotero
account, download the software, and learn how to capture and use scholarly sources
effectively.
Data Cleaning with Python/Pandas
Wednesday, Sept. 24 | 10 a.m.–noon
Digital Scholarship Center, Coe Library, Room 302 | Register for Data Cleaning
Before starting analysis, it’s essential to clean your data. This workshop introduces
best practices for preparing raw data using Python and the Pandas library. Participants
