Living with a Roommate

Sharing a space, a snack stash & lots of laughs!

Living with roommates is one of the most rewarding parts of the UW experience! It’s a chance to grow personally, share fun moments and build lasting friendships. You’ll pick up life skills like communication and teamwork while creating bonds that last. And, of course, you may get a chance or two to put your conflict resolution skills to the test… At the University of Wyoming, we’re all about making your living situation positive and enjoyable. With support from Resident Assistants and on-campus resources, you'll have everything you need to make the most of your roommate experience!

Roommates Agreements

Living with a roommate and in close quarters can take some getting used to and that’s okay. Set yourself up for success by taking time at the beginning of the semester to outline a roommate agreement.

Here are a few suggested topics to cover:

  • Agree on a cleaning schedule for shared spaces.
  • Discuss preferred quiet hours and study times.
  • Outline rules for guests and visitors.
  • Determine which items are shared (i.e. microwave) and which items are individual (i.e. clothing).
  • Any other topics that feel important or pressing.

Be respectful of one another, do your best to enjoy your time together and reach out to your RA or the Counseling Center if you need help navigating your living situation.

Contacting Your Roommate

When you view your roommate information, we encourage you to contact your new roommate(s) directly. While checking social media can give you some fun insight, it's important to make personal contact and build a connection before forming any judgments. This will help set a positive tone for your rooming experience.
