UW CEA Center Outreach 2025 - 2026 School Year Events List
Since its launch in 2024, the interdisciplinary course CEA Principles and Applications (AGRI 4990), conceived as a deliverable of the WIP program, has become a flagship workforce-development activity of the CEA Network. In July 2025, the course graduated its second cohort of 10 “innovators”—eight UW students, one student from Central Wyoming College, and one from Sheridan College—for an intensive eight-week experience combining lectures, hands-on activities, and direct engagement with CEA industry professionals. Eight REU students also participated in the lectures, further expanding the course’s reach. The course continued to grow in Summer 2026, with another successful cohort of 10 UW graduate and undergraduate students. Students gained hands-on access to the newly installed walk-in growth chambers at the PGPF. Michael Baldwin, Research Assistant and PGPF Facility Manager, developed and coordinated laboratory activities that incorporated an indoor hydroponic growing system donated by Crop King. Students gained practical experience in crop production, sensor development, and environmental control, while a Conviron/Argus representative provided an in-person demonstration and discussion on growth-chamber technology as part of the WIP lecture series. Across its three years of delivery, AGRI 4990 has engaged 40 students, approximately 11 CEA companies, two community college instructors—from Central Wyoming College and Santa Fe Community College in New Mexico—and 14 UW instructors representing the College of Engineering, College of Business, School of Computing, and CALSNR.
