During the Summer of 2025, one of the affiliate students who graduated from AGRI4990, Jack Mckinley, had the opportunity to join a paid two-months internship at Crop King (OH). CropKing, a CEA Network industry affiliate, offered its first-ever internship opportunity through the C-CEA, recognizing the growing need to prepare the next generation of CEA professionals. The company viewed the internship as a meaningful way to contribute to workforce development in a rapidly evolving industry, emphasizing that education and hands-on training are essential to the successful implementation and advancement of CEA technologies.

In the Summer of 2026, Photoson System Instruments (PSI), CEA Network industry affiliate — plant phenotyping company with long-running branches
in Europe and Australia - joined forces with the WIP program and offered a nine-week
internship in the Czech Republic for two students after a competitive call, one graduate
student and one postBachelor from the UW Botany Department. Students are currently
in Europe working in scientific experiments at the R&D department of PSI with excellent
perspectives of
continuing the collaborative work once they return to UW. These partnerships demonstrate the Center’s ability to connect students with industry and create opportunities that benefit both the student and the broader CEA sector.
