Homecoming 2017 Student Activities

All students are welcome to participate in the student activities taking place over Homecoming.

Homecoming T-Shirt and Pizza Giveaway

Presented by Associated Students of the University of Wyoming (ASUW)

When: Friday, October 20, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Locations: Simpsons Plaza


The Big Event and 2017 Homecoming Kickoff

Presented by Service, Leadership and Community Engagement (SLCE)

When: Saturday, Oct. 21 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Location: Simpson Plaza

Description: The Big Event is an opportunity for UW Students to say thank you to residents of the greater Laramie community for the support they provide to the University by volunteering at homes, businesses, and local non-profits. Our goal is to make this a BIG EVENT so we can say a BIG THANK YOU. We encourage all students to participate in The Big Event. The Big Event will kick off at 9:00 AM at Simpson Plaza with breakfast and other activities before students depart for their service sites. Following The Big Event, Laramie Main Street invites all participates to attend its barbecue at The Depot. Food, drinks and live music will be provided to celebrate community. Everyone is welcome.

Horseshoe Scavenger Hunt

Presented by Associated Students of the University of Wyoming (ASUW)

When: Tuesday, Oct. 24 to Friday, Oct. 27

Location: Campus Wide

Description: Throughout the week of Homecoming, beginning on Monday, students will be challenged to find horseshoes hidden around campus. Clues will be posted on the ASUW Facebook and Twitter pages each day until every horseshoe is found. Upon discovery of the horseshoes, students will need to bring them to the ASUW office in order to receive awesome prizes! Updates about the search and the results will also be posted on the ASUW Facebook and Twitter pages. This event goes until Friday, October 27.


Homecoming T-Shirt Giveaway

Presented by Associated Students of the University of Wyoming (ASUW)

When: Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 11:00am - 1:00pm

Location: Simpsons Plaza


Homecoming Student Tailgate and Pep Rally

Presented by Residence Life and Dining Services (RLDS) and Student Affairs

When: Wednesday, Oct. 25 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM

Location: Washakie Dining Center & Washakie Green (outside of White and Downey Hall)

Description: Ready for a tailgate party so big that it needs two locations? Gather your friends the evening of Oct. 25th and head to Washakie Dining Center and the Washakie Green for delicious tailgate food & live music to groove to. Have a meal plan? Simply swipe in! If not don't worry, the first 300 students get tasty tailgate food free of charge. After the festivities, at 6:45pm, everyone will assemble in front of White Hall for a pep rally walk over to A&S Auditorium for the Homecoming Sing! 


Homecoming Sing *FEATURED EVENT

Presented by Iron Skull

When: Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7:00 PM

Location: Arts & Sciences Auditorium

Description: Don’t miss the opportunity to compete in the oldest Homecoming tradition at the University of Wyoming and win the $1,000 grand prize! New this year; all UW students can participate. Teams from across campus will come together for a night of laughter, entertainment and fun competition. Prizes will be awarded for winning teams from each category, and a grand prize of $1,000 will be given! Homecoming Sing will be held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 25th in the A&S Auditorium. To participate, student groups must complete and submit the Homecoming Sing application and supporting materials outlined in the Homecoming Sing Rules.


Registration deadline is Friday, October 20 before 5:00 PM

Homecoming Dance

Presented by 7220 Entertainment and the Cowboy Country Swing Club

When: Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 8:00 PM

Location: Union Ballroom

Description: Join the Cowboy Country Swing Club at 8pm for swing lessons and then practice your moves to the musical stylings of Ryan Chrys and The Rough Cuts beginning at 9pm. For more information check out the event page on the Wyoming Union Facebook.


Car Push

Presented by UW Athletics 

When: Thursday, Oct. 26 at 2:30 pm (weigh-in)

Location: Southwest ramp of War Memorial Stadium (near gate 1)

Description: The Homecoming Car Push is a long-standing UW tradition, don’t miss it! Sign your group up for a battle of strength and speed.  There are two weight divisions: 1,000-1,999 pounds and 2,000-2,999 pounds. Feel free to sign-up as many team members as you want, but their collective weight must fit into one of the two weight classifications. The competition takes place on the southwest ramp of War Memorial Stadium (near gate 1). Weigh-ins will occur at 2:30 p.m. at the competition site. The Car Push officially starts at 3:00 p.m. The winner from each weight classification will receive a banner.

Event Notes: Dress is athletic clothes and closed-toed shoes. 

Judging Criteria: This is a timed event. Fastest time per weight division wins.

ASUW Annual Pig Roast

Presented by Associated Students of the University of Wyoming (ASUW)

When: Friday, Oct. 27 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Location: Prexy's Pasture

Description: Another great tradition sponsored by ASUW, stop by Simpsons Plaza for pulled pork sandwiches and enjoy music, corn hole, and other activities! A vegetarian option will also be available. This event concludes at 1:00 PM.


Homecoming Parade

Presented by UW Alumni Association (UWAA) and WYO-GOLD

When: Saturday, Oct. 28 at 9:30 AM

Location: Begins at 9th and Ivinson

Description: We hope you enjoy participating in this great UW tradition! Parade line-up will begin at 8:30 AM. Entries will compete for the chance to receive traveling trophies.

Registration Information: The parade application can be found on the main Homecoming site. Registration deadline is Friday, October 20th by 4:00pm.

Sophomore & Freshmen Revival Tug of War Competition and Historical Campus Tour

Presented by the SPURS

When: Immediately following the Parade on Saturday, October 28

Locations: The Tug of War will in the area between the Arts & Sciences Building and Merica Hall (near the Ben Franklin Statue) and the Historical Campus Tour will start in front of the A&S Building after the Tug of War concludes (west side of campus).

Sophomore and Freshmen Revival Tug of War Competition: Did you know there use to be a pond right here on campus between Merica Hall and the Arts and Sciences Building-the Peanut Pond. It was at this location students would come ice-skating and where the Freshmen and Sophomore Tug of War competition was held. SPURS hopes to bring this long forgotten tradition back just in time for Homecoming. It will be held, in memoriam of the original competition, in the area between the Arts and Sciences Building and Merica Hall (near the Ben Franklin Statue). Come support at the age-old tradition near the original Peanut Pond. Tug of War to take place right after the    parade.

Historical Campus Tour: How much do you know about your school? Homecoming is the perfect time to get to know more about the rich history of our great campus. With UW celebrating over 130 years of history, it is laden with stories and legends -some that have been passed down to us and others that have faded in to time. Led by our very own Dr. Phil Roberts you will be taken around our campus and bask in the glow that is Poke Pride. You will learn interesting facts like what are the five oldest buildings on campus, what the original name of the University, what building use to be the library before COE, and about the Octopus Tree. Come and grow your UW spirit by learning more about it just in time for Homecoming. Tour will start in front of the A&S Building after the Tug of War concludes (west side of campus).
