Distinguished Alumni and Medallion Service Awards honor accomplished alumni and those who give back to UW.
There’s no doubt that University of Wyoming alumni are an impressive bunch. Visit uwyo.edu/profiles, and you will read stories about outstanding generals, artists, nurses, lawyers, politicians, architects, engineers, athletes, business people and more—and these are only a small sampling of the multitude of impressive leaders UW helped shape.
Each year, the UW Alumni Association recognizes some of these stellar alumni with the Distinguished Alumni Award. The first award went to Navy Vice Admiral Emory Land in 1953. This year’s winners are Gaurdia Banister, executive director of the Institute for Patient Care at Massachusetts General Hospital; Dr. Harold H. Gardner, founder and managing partner of Human Capital Management Services Group; and Dave D. Freudenthal, who served two terms as Wyoming’s 31st governor.
Since 1968, the UWAA also has honored individuals who have given unselfishly of their time, talent or support to UW, whether alumni or not. This year’s Medallion Service Award goes to Peter M. Johnson and Paula Green Johnson. Peter Johnson is the president of the Sinclair Oil Corp., and the couple has been instrumental in many endeavors at the College of Business, including helping create the Peter M. and Paula Green Johnson Career Center.
The 2014 honorees will be recognized at this year’s Homecoming celebrations. For a complete list of DA/MSA recipients, visit uwyo.edu/alumni/about-the-uwaa/da-msa.
