UWyo MagazineUWAA President's Message

September 2014 | Vol. 16, No. 1

Fellow alumni, it is an exciting time for the University of Wyoming and the UW Alumni Association. 2015 is our 120th year of service to alumni, students and UW; therefore, we will be celebrating our history and telling our story throughout this year. These celebrations will culminate with the 120th Anniversary Celebration Gala on April 18, 2015, in the new Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center—save the date and mark your calendar!

We have begun implementing our 2015–20 strategic plan. We are preserving the legacy and traditions of the association while implementing strategies to strengthen our communication efforts; develop our alumni networks; increase personal connection in all 23 Wyoming counties and major alumni markets out of state; and enter new strategic partnerships with the Cowboy Parents Association and Saturday U along with growing our relationships with UW Admissions, the UW Center for Advising and Career Services, and the various UW colleges.

While the strategic plan is a five-page document on paper, it will only come to life with leadership from our board, execution from our staff and, most importantly, a growing wave of passionate UW alumni coming together to carry the UW banner. We invite you to help us move the university forward through the UWAA by recommending prospective students in your community to attend UW; opening internship opportunities for UW students; hiring UW graduates; starting or joining a UW alumni network; staying connected to the UWAA on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter; and becoming a member of the UWAA if you are not already a member. We are within 1,700 members of reaching our three-year goal established in 2012 of 20,000 members. One membership does make a difference in providing funding for our alumni programming.

Our board is positioned to lead the association with a strengthened governance model and the introduction of a new alumni outreach network. The network will support the association and its programs in matters relating to, but not limited to, alumni outreach, membership marketing, revenue generation, student recruitment, and connection with networks, chapters and other constituencies. I look forward to serving alongside past-president Tom Allen (B.S. ’89) and my fellow alumni board officers, president-elect Phil Petersen (B.S. ’63); and vice presidents Bonnie Bitner (’70), Doug Mader (’98), Matt Ebzery (’04), Mike Howe (’93), Kristin Wilkerson (’07), Matt Wold (’08), Mary Lou Heink (’66) and Tim Wilson (’98).

If you ever have any questions or our staff can be of service to you, please do not hesitate to call. We are here for you. Go Wyo!

Best in brown and gold,

Jennifer Nevins (B.S.P ’76)
