Green Rock picnic area parking lot for non-motorized users
Limit the number of vehicles that can park on the road
No large parking lot
Develop parking at a lower spot & cut a trail to go to Green Rock. This could be 2
trails 1 for snowmobiles & 1 for skiers
Have separate trails leading away from Green Rock for each group
Parking restrictions & total #s monitored & limited. We can't all be in one
place at one time. Perhaps putting skiers on one side, snow machines on the other.
Signage to delineate trails & non-motorized areas
Signage to express the proper manner of recreating (including courteous behavior)
Popularize underutilized areas (especially motorized recreation) so that over use is not
apparent
No use of motorized recreation in areas not previously used for this
Enforce current regulations concerning off-limits areas
Need more parking for snowmobilers and skiers
Let the county take care of the problem
Keep the Green Rock turnaround closed and enforce the closure so search & rescue
vehicles & snowplows can do their job
Parking should be more limited for snow machines and skiers
Institute a pass or permit system and limit the number of snowmobilers and skiers'
passes each day. I would prefer this over increasing parking as parking lots decrease
valuable habitat.
Will the Forest Service give in & allow wider shoulders for wintertime parking
More Parking!
Reroute user trails so they don't conflict with each other.
All dogs should be on leashes while in the parking areas and on trails
Plow Green Rock picnic area for non-trailered vehicles
Trash cans in parking areas
Speed limits in parking areas and first 2 miles of trails
Centennial - Needs more parking pull outs or extend parking area past Snowy Mountain
Lodge
Better signage would help
Albany has only 1 parking area & fills out quite rapidly. Is there a possibility of
more lots?
Parking lots should be made larger - They regulate how much use is possible
Regulations should be enforced - Someone should be there "some" of the time
Perhaps there should be separate lots for different kinds of users
Need more parking areas at Centennial next to the snow & some rules on how to park
so other people can get in & out
Better signed lots
Better designation of "pull-through" lots
Paid parking per "equipment" you pay for each skier/sled/etc. not per vehicle
Better enforcement/towing
Discourage "marketing" of the area by tourism books, etc.
What about parking at the Snowy Range Ski Area. It is on FS Land.
A parking lot would be nice to help eliminate roadside parking. It is hazardous
A speed limit should be imposed on snowmobiles until they are a mile or so past Snowy
Mountain Lodge
Snowmobiles with less emissions would help the environment
Parking lot needs to be bigger. Recreation in the Snowies has grown and the parking lots
haven't, maybe have the skiers in one part and snowmobilers in other.
The fact that there is a large amount of traffic due to people wanting to recreate in
our area is a huge compliment being paid to the Snowy Range. People love it & the fact
is they have to get there somehow & the most popular mode is by vehicle. Therefore, we
need lots of parking & the side of the road is not the best place for it. It would be
nice if the Forest Service could provide more parking areas.
The Forest Service provides NO! parking for snowmobiles. We need parking for all users.
Plow the Green Rock Picnic Area and make it for skiers only
The skiers have 3 lots which never have more than a few cars in them. How come they
don't use what is provided.
Need more parking at Albany and Green Rock. Traffic is not a problem,
Impose speed limits for 3-5 miles outside parking area
More snowmobile farther away but provide ample space & even a diagram of best
way to park to make most of space
Have skier parking (& other non-motorized sports) closer to trails
Green Rock parking area should be kept open through the winter for the vehicles of
skiers only, this would reduce the contact with snowmobiles on Highway 130.
Parking @ Green Rock
Provide trailhead ("close") parking for non-motorized recreators and charge
for it.
Provide area for non-motorized recreationalists at top of Green Rock
A larger paved and plowed area should be built near the end of the highway above
Centennial for use for the x-country skiers and snowmobilers, a daily fee could be charged
- $3.00 a day to facilitate the traffic and parking problems that develop at the end of
the road during winter sports use.
Parking and traffic is a huge problem and it is obvious that the snow machines and their
trailers take up much more space and use much more traffic space and effects traffic flow
much more
There is good snow on the north side but few ways to get there. Why don't we do some
work at Arlington and Elk Mountain?
Need separate parking for skiers & snowmobilers
Once parking areas are full for the day that's it
More expensive permits
More costly permits for out of state users
Hwy 130 is a major problem
Have motorized recreation parking at Green Rock. Create non-motorized recreation parking
at Sand Lake Road at intersection W/ FS 330. (In other words, create separate motorized
and non-motorized recreation parking).
Make some reasonable noise limits
Better marking of designated areas
Enforce parking, permits, limit the numbers.
Set boundary for skier parking & snowmobile parking
Needs more parking created. Perhaps making a "non-motorized sport" parking
area & a "snowmobilers" parking area. This should be in proportion to the
numbers involved. No campers should be allowed overnight parking. The guests staying at
the lodge would need to park at the lodge. This would aid in parking availability &
snow removal.
As a former skier present snowmobiler (I'm in my 60's) I feel this problem
can be readily solved by increases parking areas, have fee type parking permits (for
skiers also) & speed limits around parking areas. Lets - restrict this discussion to
user conflicts & resolve then - winter tourism in Laramie area is huge.
More parking has got to be created, both for snowmobilers and skiers. These sports have
grown tremendously.
Designate special trails and telemark slopes for non-motorized use. Designate
certain areas for motorized use. (i.e. Snowy Range Road and high-marking areas)
Utilize open areas above the turnaround for more parking. If necessary have Forest
Service personnel available to assist. (I have yet seen a Forest Service personnel
available except maybe on a snow plow)
Maybe have separate parking areas for different users.
Plow Green Rock for ski parking
Add more parking for snowmobilers
No parking fee for all
Post speed limits and enforce in parking areas. Need more parking above Centennial for
x-country skiers. Fine truck-trailers when using excess parking area (10 feet between
vehicles)
Plow Green Rock picnic area for XC parking only. Leave the road alone for the
snowmobilers we are OK with the current situation.
Require a snow-use sticker for all vehicles that use any area
Increase annual registration to several hundred dollars in an effort to reduce the
number of people snowmobiling
Who is paying for these meetings
What makes you think any thing is wrong with the snowmobiling that is going now.
You already have law enforcement to take care of these thing.
Let people from Wyo take care of Wyo.
Get rid of the Drunks
WYDOT needs to allow the USFS to charge people for parking on the Snowy Range Highway,
or permit need to be issued. The traffic and parking are horrible.
Parking and access in winter has become strained at the Green Rock area. Some Possible
solutions: - Separate lots for skiers(non-motorized) and snowmobilers, - Separate
trailheads for same. - Parking passes and a required education session/video/class to use
forest in winter. - Slow zones at the end of the road and possibly for 1-5 miles up the
roads/trails with overlapping use. - Parking carrying capacity determined and enforced.
Parking restrictions enforced. No additional lots yet.
Provide more parking at Albany & above Centennial - either by widening roads or
adding parking areas.
No overnight camping in parking lot?
Different parking lots for skiers and snowmobilers
Limit park at each parking lot
Toilet facilities
Slow zone in parking lot
Limit parking i.e. permits
Limit parking
Separate parking for snowmobilers v. other users
Charge all who park & use FS on highway or FS parking areas
Do not allow parking along highway - only designated areas
Lower speed limits
No trailer access
Encourage carpooling/multiple users
Examine public transport system
The Green Rock area is very over crowded. If we could move it up the mountain, just
below the Snowy Mountain Lodge. Take some of the hill out and build a large lot. That
would solve the main problem is I see it. As a sledder, I would not have a problem with
part of the lot being set aside for the skier and hikers. Make all the users pay a parking
fee. To help pay for a new parking lot. And the up keep in the years to come. Have a
ranger on hand to check snowmobile for Wyoming registrations.
Parking should be $10 per axle, so as to cost snowmobiles more since they take up about
three places. There should be a ski shuttle that leaves Laramie every hour during the
winter. Then, as a skier, I wouldn't have to park up in that mess at all. What ever
happens, the worst thing would be to make the parking area wider or bigger. Humans
are already impacting the Snowy Range too much.
Need 2 lots at Green Rocks - 1 ski 1 snowmobile & a limit on Sat-Sun parking. When
its full either skiers or snowmobilers - it is shut, go to Albany or Fox Park
No more parking lots or parking areas
Parking permits - use caps
Snowmobiles are producing levels of pollution, near parking areas that exceed EPA/NAAQS.
This should be illegal.
Free "Safe Snowmobiling" classes
Make snowmobiles quieter & pollution free
Parking is a hazard for all involved snowmobilers skiers and snowshoers. The facility is
insufficient to accommodate the increased growth in population. This in turn increases
use.
I see parking areas as the major conflict area for the Snowies. The parking areas at all
the winter destinations are too small and restrictive - whenever people are jammed
together conflicts will arise. There is plenty of room for all to recreate in the
mountains once you get away from the trailhead. Give us more options and access points and
we ca avoid these crowding problems and many interpersonal conflicts.
Snowmobile speed limits leaving parking areas and restrict dispersed use a mile or two
down road from trailhead i.e. funnel snowmobiles away from areas near trailheads that
skiers use.
Traffic between snowmobilers and skiers at the parking lot on the 130 end could be
lessened if there were designated "user" sides for skiers and snowmobilers -
near collisions are common in this 2-3 mile stretch up to Sugarloaf often - it would not
work, however, without some type of enforcement. I am not sure how this would be
accomplished.
The Forest Service needs to expedite the building of more well designed parking.
Building another parking lot would not help the situation - if you build it they will
come. Encourage parking on one side of the highway only.
Make more parking area to avoid conflict
More asphalt parking
Why don't they stop the 50 and 60 ft mobile homes from camping in the parking lot so we
will have room to park ski-doos to have fun
Need much more parking area - perhaps separate trailheads & lots for
motorized/non-motorized recreationists. There is no overuse once out of the parking area.
Traffic is not a problem.
Forest Service provides no parking for snowmobiles - all state.
Extend the snowmobile trails to include the trailhead parking lots down below that the
skiers refuse to use!
Allocate the top part for the skiers. I have no qualms with riding in a little father to
get to the trails, that's why I'm there, to sled!
Start by enforcing the parking regulations at Green Rock!
Parking is a big problem in most areas. If needed - work with WYDOT to widen more areas.
Maybe a fee could be charged to help maintain parking areas.
Raise the cost of gasoline to $10/gallon
Fine motorized vehicle users for speeding in "pedestrian" areas
Facilitate communication between different types of users
Build a snowmobile track outside of public lands (privately owned)
Preserve
the environment for the pleasure of future generations
Increase parking at end of highway (Green Rock); enforce snowmobile registration
stickers at end of road (Green Rock)
Parking permit systems at Greek Rock. Residents of Wyoming get first shot. This would
cut down on out of state people. Tourism is #1 in Wyoming but I think Wyoming people
should not be forced out because of out of state people.
Suggest or push the snowmobile rigs into using the parking area at Albany as much as
possible
Enforce the parking reg. below air quality station where there is a shoulder too narrow
to park - ticket.
1. Plow Green Rock picnic area for skiers so they don't have to ski thru (as much)
congested snowmobile area to get into the backcountry 2. Post signs requesting slow speeds
in the congested area 3. to pollution - work to get EPA to pass emission regulations. The
manufacturers need to know what acceptable levels will be before they change/retool
factories 4. no camping on the road
